Carbohydrates are an important part of our diet, but which ones are the best for our body?
Carbs are a primary energy source and a crucial part of a healthy diet, but it is important to understand that not all carbs are alike. Get the energy your body needs everyday by choosing good carbs.
Simple and Complex Carbohydrates
All Carbohydrates contain sugar but depending on if they are a simple or complex carb will determine how they are processed.
Simple Carbs:
- Highly processed
- Refined sugars
- Few Vitamins and Minerals
The sugar in these carbs enter the bloodstream and cause a rapid rise in blood sugar. This is what someone might call a sugar rush which is followed by a sugar crash.
Natural foods like fruit have naturally occurring simple sugars. The fiber in the fruit helps slow down our digestion limiting the amount of sugar going into the cells.
Complex Carbs:
- Naturally occurring in Vegetables and Whole Grains
Complex carbs enter the bloodstream slow and steady providing longer lasting energy.
Carbohydrates are not bad. They are so helpful with our heartbeat, breathing and digestion. The problem with carbs is what we are choosing. We are not eating what nature intended us to eat. Don’t eat foods that have been altered and denatured.
The Anti-Carb really should be Anti-Simple Carbs.
