Cherry Plum Flower Essence
I’ve always said that I loved studying flower essences and its homeopathic properties because it gives me compassion for myself and other people. It has taught me about the wide expression of human existence and insight as to why we do the things we do.
Cherry Plum is one of 38 flower essences developed by Dr. Edward Bach around the 1930’s. Ithas been on my mind a lot lately. We live in a culture where a lot of people are feeling quite anxious and trying to hold it together emotionally the best that they can. Every now and again, I come across news stories where people actually have lost control and do something outside of their right mind. The stories can be scary to read, but perhaps they can be fear evoking because many of us occasionally have had a thought that we would lose control every now and again. Albeit, we hardly ever dare share these thoughts with anyone else.
The random thought may flit across the mind—
“What would happen if I just drove off the road right now?”
“What if I just told my demanding boss how I really felt?”
“What if I stood up and screamed during this meeting right now?”
The second after they flit across the mind, you might feel horrified that you even had such a thought and then scared that you might lose control of your right mind. You might even feel a little shaken for the next few days that this thought even happened. The fear of losing control is a situation that calls for Cherry Plum flower essence (and likely some needed rest, relaxation, and a healthy way to express how you’ve been feeling).
I, too, have occasionally had thoughts that scare me. I have looked over a cliff and wondered what it might be like to jump. I was not suicidal or depressed, maybe curious at best. I know I would never jump, but nevertheless it is terrifying that I even thought about it. When I was learning the 38 flower essences, I was relieved to discover that this doesn’t only happen to me. Other people sometimes get these thoughts, too. Since learning about Cherry Plum, I have used it in these situations and it does a remarkable job at putting my fears at ease (and the thoughts, too). This remedy is not for just any fear, but for the specific fear of losing control.
Do you find human thoughts and behaviors intriguing? Would you like to learn how the flower essences can be used to help assist the healing process? I’m looking for 4-6 people who would be interested in joining me for a flower essence study group in March and April. For more information, please visit
