What type of yoga do you teach?
We teach Hatha Yoga in the Iyengar tradition. Hatha Yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world. Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength and flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner. Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment and the use of props such as blocks, straps, mats, bolsters, and blankets to support the body. Correct alignment in poses opens up the body and frees up the breath. Iyengar yoga has been proven to be very therapeutic.
What is yoga therapy?
Yoga comprises a wide range of mind/body practices, from postural and breathing exercises to deep relaxation and meditation. Yoga therapy tailors these to the health needs of the individual. It helps to promote all-around positive health, as well as assisting particular medical conditions. The therapy is particularly appropriate for many chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment.
